4,140 infections: New record, 44 more fatal

The Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) today reported 4,140 new Covid-19 cases.


A further 44 deaths were recorded, the highest daily casualty figure recorded so far, with 43 involving nationals and one non -Malaysian.


This brings the total death toll to 1,866 people.


A total of 482 patients are being treated in the ICU with 250 cases requiring respiratory assistance.


Selangor accounted for the highest number of new infections at 1,507, followed by Johor (433), Kuala Lumpur (398) and Penang (338).


The development was informed by the Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Twitter.


Dr Noor Hisham in a statement later said a total of 15 new clusters were reported today involving eight clusters in the workplace, religious (four), education (two) and high-risk groups (one).


The clusters at work are the Lebuh Sultan and Sungai Pinang Tujuh Clusters in Selangor, Stonor Promenade Construction Site (Kuala Lumpur), Jalan Kilang Midah (Kuala Lumpur and Selangor), Jalan Tey Mia Jen, Jalan Perindustrian Tiga and Jalan Bertingkat Skudai (Johor) and Perusahaan Maju Lapan (Penang).


He said the religious clusters were the Jalan Keramat Wangsa Cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Telipot (Kelantan), Persiaran Lavender (Negeri Sembilan) and Kemunting (Pahang).

"The education cluster involves the Jalan Alsagoff Cluster (Johor) and Impian Indah (Selangor) while the high-risk group cluster involves the Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah Cluster in Penang," he said in a statement on the current situation of Covid-19 transmission today.


A total of 10 clusters were also terminated today, bringing the total number of clusters terminated to 1,410 while active clusters were 466, he explained.
