After a surge in Covid-19 instances in the area, Taman Abaka in Ladang Table, Tawau, Sabah, will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from May 25 to June 7.

Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated in a statement that 37 of the 135 Covid-19 tests conducted in the area came out positive.

“The EMCO will allow the health ministry to undertake early identification of Covid-19 instances so that the infections may be isolated as soon as possible and the diseases do not spread outside the community,” he said.

Ismail also stated that the EMCO at Kampung Keramat in Semporna, Sabah, will conclude as planned tomorrow. Meanwhile, he stated that 644 persons were arrested yesterday for MCO-related offences. Six hundred and fourteen people were fined, with 30 being remanded.

Failure to submit contact information for tracing or registration (281), failure to wear a face mask (126), failure to maintain physical distance (103) and other offences were among them (90).

The ongoing Op Benteng, according to Ismail, has resulted in the arrest of 39 illegal immigrants and the seizure of three vehicles.
