Four workplace clusters, gatherings in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Four new clusters were recorded in Sabah today involving three clusters originating from the workplace and one from a gathering.


Sabah COVID-19 spokesman Datuk Masidi Manjun said the clusters were Jalan Pengalat Lok Kawi in Papar, Lorong Karamunsing Cluster and Jalan Tun Fuad Cluster in Kota Kinabalu as well as Jalan Kretam Silimpopon Cluster in Kalabakan.


Jalan Pengalat Lok Kawi Cluster recorded 16 cases, Lorong Karamunsing Cluster (28), Jalan Tun Fuad Cluster (11) while Jalan Kretam Silimpopon Cluster, 42 cases.


Jalan Pengalat Lok Kawi cluster is a workplace cluster involving workers at the CCK Fresh Mart Sabindo factory in Papar.


"The index case is a 32 -year -old man, a worker in the factory's quality control unit (QC) and started symptoms since May 10 before being confirmed positive at the Inanam Health Clinic on May 18. Following the case, the employer conducted screening at work on 69 workers the factory involved, "he said in a statement, today.


Meanwhile, Masidi, who is also the Minister of Local Government and Housing and the state Minister of Finance II, said the number of daily COVID-19 cases had increased to three figures.


"Based on the Sabah State Health Department (JKNS) report, the number of new positive COVID-19 cases today is 245 making a cumulative total of 59,909 cases and one death case recorded in Tawau," he said.
