KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Any consideration of a full-fledged Movement Control Order (MCO) will be made only after consultation with the appropriate authorities.
Every decision to adopt an MCO, according to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, will be based on recommendations from the Ministry of Health.
"In a special National Security Council meeting, we will consider this issue (on Covid-19). If the Health Ministry determines that a total lockdown is necessary, the issue will be discussed (at the meeting)."he told a press conference after visiting the Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital here, today.
Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, the Health Minister, could not rule out the prospect of implementing a more rigorous MCO, particularly in places where Covid-19 instances have increased, such as Selangor.
If the existing precautions aren't enough to stop the virus from spreading, he added, greater enforcement of the standard operating procedures (SOP) and the MCO will be explored.
"We can contemplate (proposing to the National Security Council) the plan to adopt a full-scale MCO," he added.
