According to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the entire country will be placed under movement control from May 12 to June 7 due to an increase in Covid-19 cases.

"With daily overflow 4,000, and 37,396 active cases and 1,700 deaths as of May 10, Malaysia is in the grip of a third wave that could devolve into a national crisis."

"Data as well as science show that associations make social distancing difficult, and that large groups in enclosed spaces are the leading cause of Covid-19 spread," he said in a statement released on Monday (May 10).

According to Muhyiddin, the chain of virus can only be broken by enforcing stricter movement control while the public remains at home.

All cross and interstate travel will be prohibited, unless for work and economic reasons, health matters, emergencies, vaccination appointment scheduling, or long-distance couples, he said.

"Wedding ceremonies, dinners, and tahlils, as well as official state and corporate events, are prohibited.

"Child - care centres, nurseries, and kindergartens are permitted to operate in accordance with SOPs."

Face-to-face conferences and meetings will also be prohibited. However, akad nikah ceremonies will be permitted in accordance with the SOPs established by state Islamic agencies for Muslims and the National Registration Department for non-Muslims "He stated.

According to Muhyiddin, a three-person limit for private vehicles, taxis, and e-hailing vehicles will be enforced.
